HKU-Pasteur Research Pole Fellowship Award Ceremony

A ceremony in honour of the laureates of the first edition of the HKU-Pasteur Research Pole Fellowship took place on 8 July 2021 at the Residence of France.

The HKU-Pasteur Research Pole Fellowship enables students in master, doctoral or post-doctoral studies at universities in Hong Kong and Macao to pursue their research project during a three-month internship at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, in the laboratory of their choice.


The ceremony took place in the presence of Ms Diane-Sophie Trévoux, Attachée for cooperation at the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao, Professor Roberto Bruzzone and Professor Leo Poon, both co-directors of the HKU-Pasteur Research Pole, the sponsors of the programme, as well as the three scholarship holders, their supervisors and their families.


The event was an opportunity to thank the three main sponsors of the programme alongside the Consulate General of France: the Legion of Honour Club Hong Kong Chapter, represented by Mr Henry Tang, BNP Paribas Hong Kong Branch, represented by its CEO Mr Hugo Leung, and the Pasteur Foundation Asia, represented by its former President,Mr Leo Kung.


In 2021, for the first edition of this programme, three laureates were selected for the quality of their research project:

  • Mr Ye Peng, a doctoral student at the HKU-Pasteur Research Pole, who will be doing his internship in the Institut Pasteur and CNRS Biological Image Analysis Laboratory under the supervision of Dr Elisabeth Labruyère.

  • Dr Simon Chi-Chin Shiu, post-doctoral student at the School of Biomedical Sciences of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong, who will carry out his internship in the Laboratory of Bio-Organic Chemistry of Nucleic Acids of the Institut Pasteur and CNRS under the supervision of Dr Marc Hollenstein.

  • Mr Terence Tak Wang Lee, a PhD student at the School of Biomedical Sciences of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong, who will be doing his internship under the supervision of Dr Thomas Wollert in the Membrane and Transport Biochemistry Laboratory of the Institut Pasteur and CNRS.







A traditional French lunch, which followed the ceremony, allowed the laureates, members of the jury and sponsors to exchange on biomedical research in France and Hong Kong and on the professional projects of the laureates.
