International Workshop “Epidemiological Methods for Health Research”, 17-21 September 2012, Ho Chi M

The International Workshop on “Epidemiological Methods for Health Research” (September 17-21, 2012) kicked off today at the Training Center of the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam).


The main objective will be to provide a broad basis of the practical knowledge for study design and implementation in the area of clinical research on infectious diseases. Primary focus will be on the logistics of collection, storage and analysis of high quality data to address relevant and well-framed research questions to support public health-oriented research throughout the South East Asia/Mekong region.


Thirty-four students from the Asia-Pacific region (Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Myanmar, New Caledonia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam) selected from almost 100 applications will be working together under the supervision of an international team including faculty from National University Singapore, Australian National University, National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City.


The course will also be the first international teaching program organized in the newly established Teaching Center of Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Min City. The course was made possible by grants from the Institut Pasteur International Network, the Regional Emerging Diseases Intervention (REDI) Centre-Singapore and the Regional Office of the French Cooperation and Cultural Activities Services (SCAC).
