March 8 will be the International Women's Day, an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women all around the world. HKU-Pasteur is committed to work towards a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination, that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
On this occasion, we are happy to launch a series of three portraits, highlighting the work and journey of inspiring figures at HKU-Pasteur. Let's start this series with Lisa Touyon, Research Assistant.
What is your educational background and training? And why did you chose to work in science?

Lisa Touyon: My educational background, training, and professional experience span over a decade in Engineering. I hold a BSc and MPhil in Civil Engineering, and an MSc in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Coming from a built environment field, I always get asked why I chose to work in science. The answer is quite simple, as one that is best described as ‘a lifelong learner', I chose to transition to science after obtaining my MPhil in 2020 because it allows me to continuously ask questions, discover and learn new things.
What is your role at HKU-Pasteur and what projects are you working on?
Lisa Touyon: I am a Research Assistant at HKU-Pasteur. My main work is to investigate immunogenicity based on hemagglutinin-inhibition (HI) and other serology assays.
How do you feel about the role of women in science today?

Lisa Touyon: Every woman, whether a scientist in the laboratory making scientific discoveries, or those working in aiding researchers in making those discoveries and producing results, or even a stay-at-home mom nurturing a new life, plays a vital role in science today. Women in science bring not only diversity to the field, but excellent skills that drive innovation. They inspire, motivate and prove to every woman out there that they too can.
