Mr Jimmy LAI has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Hong Kong for his work entitled "STD-NMR as a novel method to study influenza virus-receptor interactions" on March 1, 2012. The PhD examining board congratulated him for his nice presentation and outstanding achievements.
Jimmy joined the Centre as Research Assistant in spring 2007 and started his Mphil and PhD project on influenza virus in January 2008 in the Translational Research team. He performed his PhD research work at the Centre, under the supervision of Dr Jean-Michel GARCIA, Prof John NICHOLLS and Prof Malik Peiris. He also attended the 5th HKU-Pasteur Virology Course in 2008 and has been recently awarded best oral presentation of the "Infection & Immunology and Public Health" session and ranked 2nd runners-up at the plenary session of the 16th HKU Research Postgraduate Symposium. Jimmy has published four scientific articles (Lai et al. 2012, Garcia and Lai 2011, Lai et al. 2010 and Haselhorst et al. 2008) and will start his postdoctoral fellowship at the HKU Department of Pathology.
