On March 8, 2013 the Board of Directors of the Institut Pasteur under the chairmanship of Jean-Pierre JOUYET, has elected Mr Christian BRECHOT Director General for a 4-year mandate. He will succeed on October 1, 2013 to Professor Alice DAUTRY.
Christian BRECHOT is University Professor, Hospital Practitioner (PU-PH) in Hepatology and Cell Biology. He was trained in research at the Institut Pasteur and has, in particular, led a research unit INSERM-University Paris Descartes, the hepatology service at the Necker hospital as well as a National Reference Center (NRC) Pasteur / Necker on viral hepatitis. His research has focused on hepatitis caused by hepatitis B and C viruses, their diagnosis and treatment, their relationship with liver cancer and, more recently, new approaches to the understanding and treatment of liver failure. From 2001 to 2007 he was Director General of the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM). Since 2008, he is Vice-President of the Institut Mérieux in charge of medical and scientific affairs. Professor BRECHOT has medical and scientific curriculum, a strong experience and international recognition, a high-level capacity of administrative management in both academic and industrial context.
