The HKU-Pasteur Team Supports Breast Cancer Survivors

Our fantastic HKU-Pasteur team worked hard during the last few weeks to join the University of Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Cancer Care and HK Knitted Knockers collaboration.

They volunteered to make Knitted Knockers, special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast.

According to the Hong Kong Cancer Registry published in 2020, Breast Cancer has always been the most common cancer affecting women in Hong Kong since 1994. On average, about 12 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every day and there are already 4,618 breast cancer cases diagnosed in 2018. To offer an ongoing supply to meet with the needs, The University of Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Cancer Care is collaborating with HK Knitted Knockers organised by Insomniac Textiles to host a handcrafted breast prosthesis workshop for volunteering.

If you want to learn more and take part in the effort, make sure to have a look at the University of Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Cancer Care website and the Knitted Knockers website.
