A delegation from the HKU-Pasteur Research Pole attended the latest International Society for Influenza and other Respiratory Virus Diseases (ISIRV) conference on Correlates of Protection for Next Generation Influenza Vaccines, held at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Conference Centre in Seattle, WA from March 1st to 3rd 2023. On this occasion, Carolyn Cohen, PhD student at HKUPRP won the best talk award and Dr. Sophie Valkenburg the best poster award. Carolyn shares about her experience with us!
"I had an amazing experience in Seattle, USA, presenting my work on alternative correlates of protection following CoronaVac and BNT162b2 boosters in Hong Kong at the ISIRV Correlates of Protection conference, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Conference Centre. This was based on the clinical trial "Cobovax" set up by Nancy Leung and Ben Cowling, and supervised by Sophie Valkenburg. We found that both vaccines gave equivalent T cell responses despite differences in both neutralising and Fc effector functional antibodies (preprint https://doi.org/10.1101/2022.08.25.22279158 and second manuscript in progress). I was lucky enough to be awarded a Young Investigator Travel Award prior to the conference and the Excellent Oral Presentation Award. I am really thrilled and grateful to the conference organisers for the awards, as well as to my teammates, supervisor and mentors at HKU-Pasteur and beyond!"
Congratulations Carolyn!
