In Memoriam: Professor Allan SY LAU

It is with great sadness that we announce that our friend and colleague Professor Allan SY LAU of the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine of the University of Hong Kong passed away this Monday, April 22, 2013.

Professor LAU joined the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine in 2001 and became Clinical Professor in 2007. In 2006, he established the Molecular Chinese Medicine Laboratory. Professor LAU's career interests were in Microbial Immunology and Cytokine Biology, specifically the immune responses to microbial infection including cytokine signaling and gene regulation. He was also a dedicated teacher who had mentored more than 20 postgraduate students and inspired them tremendously in their studies.

We are particularly indebted to Professor LAU for his contribution to the HKU-Pasteur Immunology Course as co-director. He will be sorely missed and warmly remembered by all the co-directors, lecturers, tutors and students of the course. Our thoughts are now with Professor LAU’s family, his wife Maureen, and their son Jonathan, student of the Immunology course in 2011.
