L’Oréal Scholarship for Research Internship Officially Launched (September 21, 2012, Hong Kong)

The L’Oréal Scholarship for Research Internship was officially launched on September 21, 2012 by a tripartite partnership between the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, the HKU-Pasteur Research Centre and L’Oréal Hong Kong Limited. The L’Oreal Scholarship for Research Internship is the first-ever program designed to offer research students from Hong Kong and Macau the unique opportunity to intern at Institut Pasteur, the world famous French research institute.



The L’Oreal Scholarship for Research Internship will be offered to up to four postgraduate students that are permanent residents of Hong Kong and Macau. These awardees will demonstrate outstanding individual capabilities in scientific research and the desire to pursue doctoral or post-doctoral research studies in France. The program will be open for applications beginning September 2012 to end of November 2012.


Mr. Arnaud BARTHELEMY, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, Dr. Roberto BRUZZONE, Chief Executive Officer of The HKU–Pasteur Research Centre and Mr. Stephen MOSELY, President and Managing Director of L’Oréal Hong Kong Limited today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch the ‘L’Oréal Scholarship for Research Internship’ in the presence of Mr. Eddie NG, Secretary of Education of the HKSAR Government.


At the MOU signing ceremony, Mr. Arnaud BARTHELEMY, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, said: ”The ‘L’Oréal Scholarship for Research Internship is a genuine milestone in the relationship between Hong Kong and France. This scheme will provide financial support to postgraduate students to undertake research internship programs in esteemed French laboratories. There they will learn from some of the world’s finest scientists while experiencing French culture. I have no doubt the initiative will further enhance France and Hong Kong’s scientific relationship.”


The awardees will perform research work in an academic discipline of their choice in one of the famed laboratories of the Institut Pasteur in France. Students will have the rare opportunity to immerse themselves in the French research environment, thus gaining first-hand experience working with leading scientists and their teams.


“The L’Oréal Scholarship for Research Internship will provide students the unique opportunity to discover life on a different campus while learning from world-renowned scientists. They will experience a new and diverse culture and these experiences will influence not just their life in the scientific research community but also their approach to life in general.” said Dr. Roberto BRUZZONE, Chief Executive Officer of HKU–Pasteur Research Centre.

The list of awardees will be announced in the first quarter of 2013. The panel of judges will be comprised of representatives from the collaborating parties and respected academia including Professor Nancy IP and Professor Vivian YAM, both former recipients of the L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women In Science Awards.


The L’Oréal Scholarship for Research Internship programme will commence in June 2013 for up to three calendar months and the call for applications is now open.
