Post-doctoral position in Dr Anna-Bella FAILLOUX Laboratory “Arboviruses and Insect Vectors” at the

The Institut Pasteur, a non-profit private foundation that contributes to research in biology, is looking for a post-doctoral fellow in the Laboratory "Arboviruses and Insect Vectors" headed by Dr Anna-Bella FAILLOUX.

Description Dengue is one of the most important arboviral diseases threatening tropical regions and recently, south Europe. Indeed, some autochthonous cases dengue have been reported in southern France in 2010 following likely importation from the epidemic in Martinique. These cases bear testament to the capacity of local Aedes albopictus mosquito vector to transmit the virus. This Asian tiger mosquito is the major potential vector of dengue virus (DENV) in Europe, although the most important vector world-wide is Aedes aegypti. Aedes albopictus first detected in Albania in 1979 and Italy in 1990, and has since spread throughout southern and central Europe. The applicant will be involved in examining the role of the mosquito Aedes albopictus in dengue emergence, with special emphasis on the European context. She/He will be in charge of two main tasks: (i) the evaluation of the ability of European Aedes albopictus to transmit imported DENV strains, and (ii) the identification of genetic changes in DENV associated with experimentally enhanced transmission by European vector populations.

Qualification The position is ideally suited for highly motivated applicants with a PhD and a strong background in molecular virology with an established publication record. French language is not a requirement. Strong written and oral communication skills in English are required.
