Reinforcing over 25 years of scientific collaboration between Hong Kong and France

🇫🇷🇭🇰 Yesterday morning in Paris, representatives of the HKU-Pasteur Research Pole took part in a high-level meeting at the Institut Pasteur to further strengthen the long-standing partnership between Institut Pasteur and The University of Hong Kong.

The HKU delegation was led by Prof. Xiaobo Yin, Associate Vice-President of HKU, accompanied by Ms Winnie Lai, Director of the Academic Liaison Office at HKU, and Dr. Eric Deharo, Co-director of the HKU-Pasteur Research Pole. They were joined by representatives of the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, including Ms Johanna Bouyé, Consul for Culture, Education, Science and University Cooperation, and Mr Eric Chevreul, Deputy Consul for Culture, Education and Science.

The delegation was welcomed by Ambassador Yves Saint-Geours, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Institut Pasteur, the Institut Pasteur Europe and International Affairs team (Odette TOMESCU-HATTO, PhD., Mathilde Boisserin and Emilia Cartier) and Dr Monica Sala, Head of the Education Department. 

This meeting highlighted the exceptional legacy of the HKU-Pasteur Research Pole, which for more than two decades has served as a unique bridge between Hong Kong and France in the fields of infectious diseases, immunology, virology and global health. Discussions emphasized the importance of maintaining strong international scientific partnerships to collectively address emerging global health challenges, including preparedness for future pandemics.

The exchanges also opened promising perspectives for future collaborations in research, education, student mobility and scientific training between the two institutions.

The HKU-Pasteur Research Pole warmly thanks all participants for these meaningful discussions and for their continued commitment to advancing scientific cooperation between Hong Kong and France.
